Faculty
Theory courses are taught by faculty of the School of Mechanical Sciences, IIT Bhubaneswar.
Prof. V. Pandu Ranga
Professor, School of Mechanical Sciences, IIT Bhubaneswar · Programme Coordinator
B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (JNTU Kakinada), M.Tech in Computer Integrated Manufacturing (NIT Warangal) and PhD in Mechanical Engineering (IIT Kharagpur). His research spans robotics, soft computing, and the development, analysis, modelling and optimisation of manufacturing systems. He has developed two variants of wall-climbing robotic mechanisms using bellows for cleaning and surveillance tasks, both filed for patents, and an unpowered exoskeleton that supports body weight for people who stand for long hours and for the partially disabled. His group has built 15 working robots across biologically inspired robots, intelligent machines and human assistive devices. He has led consultancy work of around ₹10 lakh and sponsored research projects of around ₹4 crore, and has published about 130 papers in national and international journals and conferences.
Dr. Venugopal Arumuru
Associate Professor, School of Mechanical Sciences, IIT Bhubaneswar · Programme Coordinator
Nearly 20 years of combined industry and academic experience, including roles at GE Measurement & Control and Forbes Marshall developing advanced sensing and instrumentation technologies. His research covers intelligent sensing, measurement and instrumentation, experimental fluid mechanics, thermal management, flow metrology and fluid-structure interaction, with recent work integrating smart sensors, embedded systems and machine learning for engineering diagnostics and autonomous measurement. He has established experimental facilities at IIT Bhubaneswar for flow diagnostics and precision measurement and has led sponsored research and consultancy worth ₹7 crore. A member of IMEKO Technical Committees TC-1 and TC-9, he holds multiple granted patents, has authored more than 100 publications, and received the INAE Young Engineer Award.
